My Review

I found this book to be very interesting. It takes the supernatural and it mixes with the human world in such a way as to make it perfectly plausible that this could, in fact, be reality in some way.

The Verge is a place on the very edges of human reality where the creatures of myth and legend exist. These creatures can, upon occasion, wander into our reality. Sometimes, they even become bound to objects such as books, holy relics, and paintings. This is an interesting concept and definitely more interesting that your run of the mill vampire novels or fallen angel books. Sure, I like those, but they’re starting to get a wee bit on the old side. This is the supernatural on a whole other level.

Freya is endearing. Awkward, loving of curious objects, and now finding herself in quite the pickle thanks to a very weird old lady and a supernatural being who is at odds with said very weird old lady. Ophidia & Dakryma are extremely interesting characters while Beldame gives me the absolute creeps. Then again, she is a very weird old lady.

I loved the way the story was written. It was easy to get sucked right into the book and I didn’t want to put it down, even though I had to upon occasion. The cats feel they need to be fed upon occasion I suppose. All in all, a great read and a book I definitely recommend for anyone looking for a supernatural book that isn’t ordinary.

About the Author

Headshot

I’m a lifelong resident of Seattle. I married my Russia-born-America-raised high school sweetheart, and we have a four year old and a new little one born in February.

I like coffee shops, bookstores, dancing in my living room and singing in my car. The opening scene of Up always makes me cry. The Three Amigos always makes me laugh. Fashion magazines, croissants, and long, long baths are my guilty pleasures. They might occur separately or together. I prefer boxing classes to yoga, and I get some of my best ideas when I’m running. I loved school and spent more time than one really should getting a business degree in marketing and a master’s in art history. In an ideal world I’d go to bed at 2am and wake up at 10am. I’ve never been an early bird, and I feel strongly that alarm clocks kill dreams.

Excerpt

I kiss her neck and breast and pull a hardened nipple in my mouth. I nip and bite, lick and suck and her hips buck under me. I’m already between her thighs and it would be so easy to thrust myself inside of her, but I’m not like that anymore, and Betsey Ann isn’t just some chick.

She’s the love of my life and I want to cherish her. Treasure her. Love her. But right now, she’s making it very difficult for me to do that.

“Colton, just fuck me,” she whispers in the dark.

Holy shit. That just came from her mouth? I line our bodies up and slowly slide in and out of her, making sure she’s ready to accept me. I don’t want to hurt her. I’m big and she’s a lot smaller than me.

She feels so good, a warm tight glove surrounding me. I can feel her tighten those muscles and I groan. She does it again, and I look into her green eyes. “What do you want me to do to you, Betsey Ann?”

“Fuck me,” she whispers.

YOU GOT IT!

“Hold on, Baby.”

My Review

I’m going to come right out and say it. I haven’t really been a big fan of the contemporary romance genre for quite a while. I suppose it is because in many cases, the books have such shallow characters that it’s just no fun to read the books. But that certainly is not the case with Shattered Pieces.

Although I haven’t read In Pieces, I was easily able to fall into the world of a woman who is in love with her Denver Bronco best friend and doesn’t quite know it at first. A woman who’d been hurt badly in the past and has no idea that her best friend has been hurt just as badly or that he’s in love with her!

Yes, there is a mention of football. No, you don’t need to understand anything about football or be a football fan to enjoy the story. In fact, there’s not much talk of actual football so you don’t have to worry that you’ll be out of the loop. Just know that Colton is a Denver Bronco and you’re good!

The story is light-hearted enough that it makes for a quick and fun read. And it helps to have songs by artists I love (We are Harlot) being mentioned in the story. I have to say, this one was really good and I’d love to read In Pieces and the next story as well!

Trust me, the ending of this one will leave you wanting more!

Blog Tour & Review: Welcome Back, Jack by Liam Sweeny

If you’re looking for a great mystery/thriller, Welcome Back, Jack is one of the books you need to find. Trust me. I read a lot of mysteries and thrillers and I know a good one when I find it.

Now, I could be biased—after all, there is a character that shares my last name—but I really loved this book. It was hard to put down. I mean, really hard to put down. I couldn’t seem to stop reading it! I just had to know what was going to happen next.

I’ve always loved mysteries where the killer makes it personal to whoever is investigating the case. In this case, Jack LeClere is the character who is being targeted by the killer. And believe me, this killer is sick and twisted in a way that I haven’t seen in a good mystery for quite a while.

Liam Sweeny has put together an interesting, entertaining, and edge-of-your-seat read with Welcome Back, Jack. His characters are masterpieces and his ideas of what kind of murder scenes to use are just awesome. I can’t really tell you about it or I’ll give something away, but I will say this—some of the murder scenes are just downright gruesome, I’m talking horror-novel-worthy gruesome.

Welcome Back, Jack was released on October 1, 2015 and is available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
